About the Movie
The only documentary ever done on the last of the blues legends. Narrated by Morgan Freeman, directed by Jon Brewer; this visually stunning film has an astounding list of contributors: Bono, Eric Clapton, Bruce Willis, Bonnie Raitt, Dr John , Keith Richards, Bill Wyman plus appearances by Mick Jagger and President Obama. This is a no holds barred, powerful feature that explores how a cotton picker from Mississippi turned his life around, battled against all the odds and unrelenting racism to overcome even the toughest critics.
A good bio that could have been better
This first part of this biography of B. B. King is good as it tells his story from birth to success as a musician. But the second part spends too much time interviewing famous (nearly all caucasian} musicians who were influenced by him and repeatedly praise him. There is not enough of King’s music or details about his later life. His personal life is barely touched on. Clint Eastwood’s film on Monk set a much higher stand for a musician’s biography.
Still this documentary is worth watching, especially if you don’t know much about B.B. King.
