About the Movie

Merle’s life begins to splinter when Sinaloa (Sophie Reid), the half-sister she never knew existed, appears on her doorstep in Texas. Initially distrustful of this enigmatic woman, a bond quickly forms between the two sisters. As Merle (Allison Tolman) allows Sinaloa into her life, Sinaloa reveals a quiet fury to Merle through her music. Sinaloa’s fierce attachment places Merle’s career aspirations, her relationship to her mother, and even her impending marriage in jeopardy. Merle fights to keep her world together while Sinaloa’s increasingly intense and erratic behavior threatens to erupt into something much darker.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Though its slow-burn narrative doesn't pay off in a wholly satisfying manner, this offbeat nail-biter should nonetheless be welcomed by those eager for something off the beaten genre path. – Nick Schager, Variety, Oct 5, 2017

Fresh: Beneath its quiet surface, the Austin, Texas-set drama "Barracuda" thrums with menace and mystery from first moment to last. – Sheri Linden, Los Angeles Times, Oct 5, 2017

Fresh: [An] absorbing, mostly low-key thriller, which builds atmosphere, psychological texture, an ingrained sense of place and a needling undercurrent of dread. – David Rooney, Hollywood Reporter, Mar 12, 2017

Fresh: A sometimes-riveting 'take' on the unexpected uninvited guest plot-line, grounded to the earth by the phenomenal performances of Allison Tolman and Sophie Reid. – Sheila O'Malley,, Oct 6, 2017
