As people everywhere watch the world's great cities fall, Los Angeles becomes the last stand for mankind in a battle no one expected. It's up to a Marine staff sergeant and his new platoon to draw a line in the sand as they take on an enemy unlike any they've ever encountered before.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: If the talk had been surgically removed, leaving only the sights and sounds of combat, this could have been a striking, semiabstract display of aggressive energy; as it is, any viewer over twelve will go for the laughs. – Anthony Lane, New Yorker, Mar 21, 2011

Rotten: Terminally stupid. – Michael Wilmington, Chicago Reader, Dec 6, 2011

Rotten: This film feels so much like a videogame your hands keep reaching for controllers -- shoot the aliens, shoot the aliens, shoot the aliens. – Tom Long, Detroit News, Mar 11, 2011

Rotten: Excitement? Not so much. – Stephen Whitty, Newark Star-Ledger, Jun 6, 2011

The best alien's Invading earth movie to date!!!

This movie is not about the aliens various aircrafts, weapons, slime and cheap typical sci-fi. I think that's why Its received such bad reviews because of the alien/predator fan boys who want that cheap, typical sci-fi. This movie is such an amazing ride as you sit side by side a small military group(like gears of war) and watch what realistically might happen If aliens invade the U.S (Los Angeles to be precise). Throughout the film you never really find out what the aliens true motives are(there are hints but nothing 100% fact) and I like that. If aliens invaded tomorrow I doubt they would speak to us or try negotiate anything. The director didn't force action down our throats either, which I liked. He took average marines, mostly young(Which was one of the key emotional drives in my opinion) who could be no older the 25 years old along with a veteran staff sergeant (Aaron Eckhart - who was phenomenal!) and delivered and emotional journey, both physically and mentally. He keeps the focus of the entire movie on the marines and humans of LA. Which, in my opinion, is what seperates this from other alien invasions movies. Every actor/actress did tremendous jobs with their roles. There were no cheap faces, expressions or mannerisms being made. Every actor made you believe that what you were seeing was the real deal(EVEN NE-YO). The fantastic score by Brian Tyler really carries you through every single moment of the film and keeps you locked into each scene whether loud and explosive or low and mellow . I'm actually buying the score right now as I write this. I don't want to spoil anything other than what I've already said but Rotten Tomatoes can kick my A**, this movie was awesome, entertaining, emotionally deep, and does the heart of our military men and women justice. I've seen it twice and I don't see anything wrong with it at all, I recommend it to anyone who's ever watched a movie. This film is a must own!! (Blu-ray preferably ;)

Extremely Entertaining!

Critics can be quite a bugger sometimes. "Battle: La" is an action-packed, suspenseful, heart-felt movie that never got boring.
Aaron Eckhart gave a wonderful performance as the lead. If I have any complaints about the movie though, it would be that the supporting cast was much less believable than Aaron, though that still doesn't make them likeable as characters.
The story was criticized for its 'unbelievable' story line. Well, aliens invading earth is in and of itself an unbelievable storyline, but that's why they call this stuff "science-fiction" now isn't it? If you want the laws of physics to apply to this, then this isn't your film. But if your willing to let it go and get with the "fiction" program, then you will have an awesome time with this.
The action sequences rocked out loud. The visuals were pretty believable and non-stop. It manages to blend with the story so the dialogue scenes are not boring.
So bottom line is, this isn't "The King's Speech" or "The Social Network", but it remains one of the most entertaining movies of the year so far. As far as things go on the thril-meter, I'd give this two thumbs up, but as a movie altogether, I'll settle with just a thumbs up.
"Marines don't quit" - Aaron Eckhart

Great Action Alein movie

Honestly i don't know why everyone hated on this movie so much. For what this was i actually really liked it. i mean sure the acting wasn't amazing and there were some things that were stupid (the heart quote to be one of them), but overall this movie was a good thrill ride from beginning to end and didn't bore me in the slightest. i personally reccommend it if you want a good humans vs aliens movie.
