About the Movie
BEN-HUR is the epic story of Judah Ben-Hur (Jack Huston), a prince falsely accused of treason by his adopted brother Messala (Toby Kebbell), an officer in the Roman army. Stripped of his title, separated from his family and the woman he loves (Nazanin Boniadi), Judah is forced into slavery. After years at sea, Judah returns to his homeland to seek revenge, but finds redemption. Based on Lew Wallace’s timeless novel, Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ. Also starring Morgan Freeman and Rodrigo Santoro.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: The last of the summer's movie epics is a digitalized eyesore hobbled in every department by staggering incompetence.
Rotten: Something soulless and empty, with all the mystery and grandeur of the tale just gone.
Rotten: An amateurish effort that boasts direct-to-video characteristics, the latest version disappoints in almost every production aspect.
Rotten: Though it seems unlikely to dislodge William Wyler's 1959 version, its story of a Judean prince (Jack Huston) who keeps running into Jesus of Nazareth (Rodrigo Santoro) offers plenty of action and spectacle.
Watched it...loved it, and can't wait to own it!
At first I was like, are they kidding? A remake of Ben Hur, one of my favorite old Hollywood Epics and will remain so. They remade the silent version and created an 11 time Academy Award Winning Masterpiece. With this new version staring Jack Huston, who really is the one that you are watching and cheering for. I watched this at first rolling my eyes at the screen, and thinking that this should have been made for TV, but then I started to see this as a new story, and stop comparing it to the beloved Ben Hur with Charlton Heston. The scenes with Jesus, were very moving and the acting was well done by everyone. After watching the movie, I wanted to watch it again. I liked Jack Huston in The Longest Ride. I give this 4 stars because it is good. I can't say that it is great. I give the Chariot scenes five stars, and the fact that they spent 12 weeks with two units filming, the actors actually trained and were on those chariots while filming. In the end, I enjoyed watching a movie that a few months ago, I was shaking my head at the movie poster questioning why they would even attempt to make another Ben Hur? How can you remake the Godfather, or Raging Bull, or Titanic? I look at Ben Hur (2016) as another version of telling the story of Ben Hur : A Tale of the Christ. Sit back and enjoy.
I loved this movie. Moved my heart. And I liked the how the story of Christ was put in so well. Different than 1st but better in some ways.
From skeptic to fan!
I was very skeptical of another Hollywood remake, but this movie was amazing. The actors were fantastically cast, the soundtrack beautifully chosen and some of the scenes were legitimately shocking in their large scope. The chariot race ends up being such an epic thrill to see! Amazing work! I preordered today and plan on seeing it again in the theater.
