Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Mr. Strickland's movie becomes a bit of a vortex at the beginning, though its milieu is too engagingly recreated to dismiss. – Nicolas Rapold, New York Times, Jun 13, 2013

Fresh: While it's a loving homage to movies like Dario Argento's Suspiria and is crafted with tons of style, it leaves out one key ingredient: being even remotely scary. – Chris Nashawaty, Entertainment Weekly, Oct 4, 2013

Fresh: A twisted tribute to analog moviemaking and 1970s Italian Giallo horror flicks. – Sheri Linden, Los Angeles Times, Jun 12, 2013

Rotten: Fans of Dario Argento and Mario Bava will appreciate the references. Even for newcomers, there are minor chords to enjoy. If only there were less screaming. – Joe Neumaier, New York Daily News, Jun 13, 2013

Strange...

I'm a sucker for weird and original movies, but this one just didn't cling to me. I've seen it advertised as a horror movie quite a few times, which is why I was a little disappointed when I watched it because this is nowhere near horror; there are one or two scenes that are a little creepy, but nothing actually scary like it advertised to be. It's a slow-paced drama/thriller that was interesting enough to keep me entertained, but once it was over, it left me thinking "what was the point of all that?" And when the climax hit, it made me a little confused and kinda took me out a little. But overall, the movie's ambiance is overly freaky with good acting and an interesting story, but it's definitely nothing special.

Runs Out of Gas

This movie intrigues for awhile until one realizes it's not going anywhere.

What?

100% tension with no resolution. When the movie "ended" (never really started), I screamed out, "What the heckl did I just watch?!" Save your money.
