3 bands, 6 cities, 1 train, and thousands of miles of track create an unforgettable musical experience in Big Easy Express. Directed by Emmett Malloy (The White Stripes Under Great White Northern Lights) and starring some of the finest acts in music today, this incredible film captures nothing less than history in the making. Indie folk heroes Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Tennessee's Old Crow Medicine Show, and Britain's acclaimed Mumford & Sons hopped on a beautiful antique train and set out across America on a tour of dreams. With poignancy and beauty, Malloy documents these incredible musicians as they ride the rails and wow the crowds from Oakland to New Orleans. So climb aboard the Big Easy Express for a vibrant and raucous adventure filled with joyous crowds, late night laughter, endless music and a train that was bound for glory.
I had the privilege of seeing this at SXSW 2012 with 8000 of my closest friends, Mumford and Sons, Edward Sharpe, and Members of Old Crow. I have never seen a documentary that is as emotionally stirring and joyful. Even if you weren't able to experience this incredible concert tour live, this will put you in the crowd and you will have the urge to sing along to Band favorites like "Home", "Wagon Wheel", and "The Cave". The filmsmanship of Mr. Malloy for concerts is unparalleled. This film also offers the viewer a unique and intimate view of the lives of the members of the bands that is bound to offer laughs and interesting thoughts. Overall, the incredible music combined with the expertise of Malloy forms a masterpiece. To Quote the Woodie Guthrie song, This train is bound for glory. I encourage and implore you to hop aboard. You won't regret it.
three ecstatic folk music cults on a train
Remember the last few moments of the old Blind Melon video where the bee girl finds the bee people? Stretch that exuberance over a feature-length documentary. Make it about three ecstatic folk music cults on a train. That's "Big Easy Express".
Contemporary Folk music and an energectic American tour.
Just saw this Movie at the Maui Film Festival and can't stop thinking about it . I was so moved and inspired by the music and raw tallent as well as the incredible backdrop of train travel across America and the tour I want to ride on that train!
