About the Movie
An ex-mercenary turned smuggler (Leonardo DiCaprio). A Mende fisherman (Djimon Hounsou). Amid the explosive civil war overtaking 1999 Sierra Leone, these men join for two desperate missions: recovering a rare pink diamond of immense value and rescuing the fisherman's son, conscripted as a child soldier into the brutal rebel forces ripping a swath of torture and bloodshed across the alternately beautiful and ravaged countryside. Directed by Edward Zwick (Glory, The Last Samurai), this urgent, intensely moving adventure shapes gripping human stories and heart-pounding action into a modern epic of profound impact.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: DiCaprio proves himself the most watchful and watchable actor of his age.
Fresh: Thanks to Mr. DiCaprio's raffishly dashing soldier of fortune, the movie is worth watching.
Rotten: The more I see of their work, the more I realise that directors Ed Zwick and Sam Mendes have one thing very sharply in common -- both are filmmakers who make movies that they think are far more important than they actually are.
Fresh: Both excitingly well made and dispiritingly formulaic.
One of the BEST movies I have EVER seen!
Blood Diamond is, without a doubt, one of the 21st century's greatest films. From beginning to end, this movie draws the audience in and takes them to a frightfully real world where children are forced to kill, innocent blood is spilt, and families are torn apart. It shows the lengths people will go to get what they want while at the same time putting into perspective the irreversible damage caused by conflict diamonds. The acting is, in one word, SUBERB. The directing is equally spectacular. One's iTunes library would not be complete without this masterpiece added to it.
Extremely eye-opening, I think everyone should see this masterpieceed
I really wish this thing could go up to 6 stars, I feel like going in and writing six myself, yes this movie deserves one star above all others. After you see this movie you feel as if you can't believe what is going on. I saw this when I was 11 and ever since them I've been telling people about conflict diamonds and getting more involved with Africa. If everyone in America saw this movie, I think America would be a much more thankful place to live and people wouldn't be as greedy. This is my favorite movie of all-time. Dijmon's performance is incredible as the father who lost his son. DiCaprio was outstanding and truly believable as Danny Archer who really shine in this movie as a smuggler who you couldn't stand what he was doing, but really wanted to see him get out alright at the same time. I kept think that he was Rhodesian the entire time and it wasn't until after the movie that I realized "Wait, he's an American." he was that amazing in this role. Jennifer Connelly I really liked too. A lot of the time Hollywood casts extremely annoying female leads that are one dimensional, but I really liked he character and thought she was a good person. All around, I think Jennifer Connelly is one of Hollywood best actress because she,.the person herself seemed like she cared and I could actually see her in Africa as a reporter, so the casting director deserves some credit for the entire cast. With Djimon Hounsou, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Connelly in a movie together with such an amazing script your bound for a good movie. You get caught so much in the story and at the end I could help but cry. Like I said, everyone in America should see this movie! If you just watched this and saw all the boy soldiers pulled from their families. What happened in this movie is real and it really did happen. This movie taught me so much that I didn't know at the time. I can remember telling my friends about some creepy music video about diamonds, but after I saw this in the 6th grade, I felt so awful for saying that and I never looked at diamonds the same way, I never will. This movie is seriously my favorite movie of all time and it's terrible what is going on over there. See it!
Makes the Grade
This film is one the best to come out in the past 10 years. This movie will change the way you see diamonds. Very moving film.
