Plot Summary

"Bobby" re-imagines one of the most explosively tragic nights in American history. By following the stories of 22 fictional characters in the Ambassador Hotel on the fateful eve that Presidential hopeful Senator Robert F. Kennedy was shot, writer/director Emilio Estevez and an accomplished ensemble cast forge an intimate mosaic of an America careening towards a moment of shattering change – as different characters navigate prejudice, injustice, chaos and their own complicated personal lives, while seeking the last glimmering signs of hope in Kennedy’s idealism. In exploring the diverse experiences of ordinary people, the film celebrates the spirit of an extraordinary man and servers as a snapshot of this emblematic time in history.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Ham-handed and TV-movie flat, it states the obvious, then states it again and again and again. – Ty Burr, Boston Globe, Dec 29, 2006

Rotten: For all his good intentions, Mr. Estevez has reduced history to a bad melodrama in which nothing much happens until a crazed assassin (of whom we catch only a fleeting prior glimpse) supposedly destroys the last great hope of a liberal renaissance. – Andrew Sarris, New York Observer, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: It's this disconnect between historical reality and dramatic indulgence that keeps an otherwise worthy film from being completely satisfying. There are moments, though, where even the most hardened cynic may have to wipe away tears of regret and loss. – Peter Howell, Toronto Star, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: A fascinating reflection of the times, when idealism and hope still held pride of place in the minds and hearts of the American public – Urban Cinefile Critics, Urban Cinefile, Nov 21, 2008

Powerful Movie

Great political drama. Funny in some parts too...not just some melodramatic snooze-fest like most of the atrocities foisted off as movies nowadays. This movie actually has energy. Great soundtrack laced with some of the best '60s music money can buy.

I love this movie. Just 5 stars!

'Bobby' is a legend.

Emilio Estevez directs an all- star cast including Oscar winners Helen Hunt and Anthony Hopkins, Oscar nominees William H Macy, Sharon Stone, and Laurence Fishburne, and young talents Lindsay Lohan, Shia LeBeaouf, Brian Geharty, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Elijiah Wood, as well as Deni Moorevand Harry Belofonta in this amazing film that revives the soul of Bobby Kennedy. This film is amazing. I particularly like the scenes between Lindsay Lohan and Sharon Stone, Sharon Stone and Demi Moore, Lindsay Lohan and Elijiah Wood, and Anthony Hopkins and Harry Belofonta. This film is amazing. All criticisms are small minded.
