Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: A witty fusion of western, horror and comedy that gallops to its own beat.
Fresh: I doubt there's a huge audience for a movie like Bone Tomahawk, but those who find it may turn it into a new cult classic.
Fresh: A gleefully grisly genre gazpacho that matches a rousing sense of Old West derring-do to a comic sensibility as dark as chewing tobacco - and at least as much of an acquired taste.
Fresh: Though its cult-movie desires often show, "Bone Tomahawk" is ultimately sold by its cast, who commit fully to Zahler's discursive indulgences.
The pace is technically slow, but it’s right. Every character is defined. Every actor shines. You feel you are in the story and that’s what great acting and directing do. The subject is so quirky and niche that it’d never have broad appeal. It’s real western and real horror. And be patient with the horror and enjoy the acting. These could well have been real events however horrific. A quality adventure.
One of the best westerns!!!!
Ok, first and foremost disregard all the negative reviews claiming this was to slow, if you're after commercial, zero attention span, spoon fed garbage go watch transformers. This was one of the most original, thought provoking, wonderfully developed character pieces I have seen this year. It is story driven, not rapid, machine gun imagery to cater to thoughts who lost their ability to simply enjoy a good movie, built around a story that happens to take its time to finish, which I for one am extremely grateful for. We need more movies like this. Richard Jenkins gives an academy award worthy performance, Mathew Fox, Kurt Russel, and Patrick Wilson dominate as well. It is violent, but the violence is incredibly well done, as well as original. To those that still have an attention span, enjoy!
Ruined by unnecessary gore
I liked this movie up until the end when it turned really, really disgusting. I can't get the image out of my head. Normally, I'm ok with gore but this was WAY over the top. I literally had to turn my head it was so disgusting. Why people need to see this level of violence is beyond me....and again, I'm not adverse to violence in movies. Waste of a film IMHO
