Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: It's another of Perry's raucous and slovenly comedies of responsibility, which means that its heart is in a very old - and right - place. If only a message that was this solid equalled solid laughs. – Owen Gleiberman, Variety, Oct 21, 2016

Rotten: Although there's a long cinematic tradition of mixing comedy with scares to excellent effect - Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein being a prime example - this lackluster effort manages to be neither funny nor scary. – Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter, Oct 21, 2016

Rotten: "A Madea Halloween" is rare for Perry in that it's one of only two "Madea" films not adapted from a stage play, but it sure feels like one, with several scenes ... feeling like a one-act, one-room play that goes on and on and on. – Adam Graham, Detroit News, Oct 21, 2016

Rotten: Boo! is certainly the most watchable Madea movie I've seen in a long time, even though I get the feeling Perry still doesn't know how to direct for the screen. – Craig D. Lindsey, L.A. Weekly, Dec 19, 2016

Kind of false advertisement

First off, I am a Madea fan. I enjoy the material done both live and in film. I saw this movie on opening night and kind of felt let down. The problem is, the promos make this movie into something it isn't. First off, it is essentially a revenge frat movie more in common with Neighbors only with Madea than it is a horror film with Madea. There are legitimately no monsters, zombies, or ghosts just people playing pranks. Keep in mind, this is not a spoiler; you are told this openly very early on!!! So there is no confusion over what is happening. In one trailer Madea fights off zombies with a shotgun. This is not in the movie and is part of this false advertisement. Otherwise, there were some funny lines but just not what I was hoping for.

Best comedy movie ever!!

My family and I loved this movie, we want to watch it over and over again. LOVED IT!! I hope there will be more Madea movies in the future.

Not funny at all!

I'm in the theatre now watching and this movie is just horrible!
