About the Movie

Ben Stiller stars as Brad, whose satisfying career, sweet wife and comfortable life in suburban Sacramento aren't quite what he imagined during his college glory days. When he accompanies his musical prodigy son on a university tour, he can't help comparing his life with those of his four best college friends who seemingly have more wealthy and glamorous lives. But when circumstances force him to reconnect with his former friends, Brad begins to question whether he has really failed or if their lives are actually more flawed than they appear. Also stars Jenna Fischer (The Office), Luke Wilson (Old School) and Michael Sheen (Masters of Sex).

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: White - whose writing credits include Chuck & Buck (in which he starred) and Nacho Libre - has made his most mature and achingly truthful film yet. – G. Allen Johnson, San Francisco Chronicle, Sep 21, 2017

Fresh: "Brad's Status" gives full voice to ... midlife worries, but also to the reassurance that it's possible to recognize the things that really matter. – Ann Hornaday, Washington Post, Sep 21, 2017

Rotten: We knew this guy was a forgettable jerk not worth our time five minutes into this movie. – Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times, Sep 22, 2017

Fresh: Although the pacing is uneven, the end result satisfies. The movie may be marketed to art house audiences but it has something to say to (and about) us all. – James Berardinelli, ReelViews, Sep 22, 2017

Boring Boring...zzzzzzzzz

ZZZZZZzzzzzz............zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....b....o....r...i...n...g.....zzzzzzzzzzz

47 year old man reflects on his life as a failure

Ben Stiller’s son, Brad, asks, “Dad, are you having a nervous breakdown or something?” It’s not a nervous breakdown but rather the thoughts that go through his dad’s head not as he considers his son’s future but rather his own past. The thoughts are not funny or insightful or nice or creepy— they are just insipid and selfish. There is zero laughter in this “comedy” nor does it attempt to be humorous. It never changes course but simply drags on through bad news after bad news. Stiller is not even a nice guy that you end up respecting. You just hope his son can get off to college soon and that no one ever has to listen to Stiller bemoan his own existence. Avoid. Close your eyes and randomly pick anything else and you will be much better off for the choice.

Terrible waste of our time

Watched it with the family...what a waste of our time, what a waste of the character's time. Brad Pitt, go back to acting. SLOOOOOOOOW to screetching halt.
