About the Movie

On the eve of their wedding, Alison gets cold feet and decides to break up with her fiancé Phil. But rather than face the embarrassment of calling off the ceremony, Alison suggests to Phil that they proceed with a sham wedding. Phil is more than game to try, secretly hoping that a surprise gift he has for Alison will ultimately change her mind. Yet once the guests begin to arrive, more complications ensue than either of them could have ever imagined - even if they did know their wedding was a charade.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: If you're the kind who is always up for a calamity-filled trip down the aisle, "Breakup at a Wedding" is a moderately amusing application of the formula. – Neil Genzlinger, New York Times, Aug 1, 2013

Rotten: Quinaz shot the film days before his own wedding, and perhaps that explains Breakup's soft, squishy heart: It can't help but melt. – Inkoo Kang, Village Voice, Jul 30, 2013

Fresh: "Breakup at a Wedding'' works, because Quinaz has come up with a concept that lets him skewer directorial pretension alongside wedding hysteria. – Farran Smith Nehme, New York Post, Aug 2, 2013

Great Great Great

Hilarious movie end to end, and some great heartfelt moments. I'd rent again and watch with my friends.

Loved this! Cult status...

Hilarious! Not what I expected

I was afraid this was either going to be a bad sophomoric cliche (think 40-Year Virgin and Wedding Crashers), but it was just a clever, snappy little comedy. You get the gist of it from the get-go when you realize whose perspective it's going to take (not bride nor groom), and if you're the sort of voyeuristic rascal who enjoys that kind of comedy, it's so funny. Not heavy, not epic, but a great little treat. I have a feeling that an older audience (40+) might better appreciate the stark reality that makes this a comedy.
