About the Movie

Jacob (Anton Yelchin) returns to his desolate hometown and discovers that his child-like brother, Buddy (Chris Marquette) is working for a notorious gang. The gang’s ruthless boss (Vincent O’Onofrio) has exploited Buddy’s simple mind and manipulated him into becoming a merciless killer. Jacob realizes the only way to save Buddy is to take down the gang from within. Broken Horses is a gritty, epic thriller about bonds of brotherhood, laws of loyalty, and the futility of violence.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Mr. Yelchin's character looks somewhat at a loss about what goes on here, and who can blame him, especially when he visits the former music teacher who has lost his legs in a run-in with the bad guys and now lives in a house warmed by a flaming barrel. – Nicolas Rapold, New York Times, Apr 9, 2015

Rotten: This overwrought tale of two orphaned brothers and their violent hometown reunion fails to convince on several crucial levels, including plotting and dialogue. – Ben Kenigsberg, Variety, Apr 6, 2015

Rotten: [A] weirdly baroque modern-day Western that, while it boasts undeniably imaginative visual and plot flourishes, is far too absurd to take seriously. – Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter, Apr 10, 2015

Rotten: There are secrets and revelations in "Broken Horses," none of them revealing. – Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune, Apr 9, 2015

Customer Reviews

A beautiful, sincere, and creative thriller

A really tense western melodrama incredibly directed by one of India’s finest, featuring great performances all around. It’s sentimental, but the sincerity of the film sells it. Critics missed the mark and I wish it had a better release/poster, because the movie was pretty awesome. Really interesting and unique direction.
