About the Movie

David (David Giuntoli) is left by his fiancé days before the wedding, and Flula (Flula Borg), his eccentrically upbeat best man, insists that they go on David’s honeymoon together: a backpacking trip through Oregon’s scenic mountains. Prepare to laugh when the pair crosses paths with a dazed conspiracy theorist (Brian T. Finney), an attractively charming backpacker (Claire Coffee), and a bloodthirsty predator (an actual wolf) who all partake in a trek that tests their friendship – and their lives. The BUDDYMOON adventures are bookended with passages from William Clark’s diary describing his friendship and expedition with Meriwether Lewis, giving David and Flula’s relationship a touch of male bonding history. BUDDYMOON is Alex Simmons’s first feature film, who has years of success in the documentary genre. He co-wrote the film with his friends and former roommates David Giuntoli and Flula Borg.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: This first feature by TV documentary director Alex Simmons, about a weeklong, male-bonding hiking trip, hasn't packed enough plot or humor to distinguish itself amidst all that lush mountain greenery. – Michael Rechtshaffen, Los Angeles Times, Jun 30, 2016

Fresh: Alex Simmons' debut feature is a fleet, consistently amusing 80-minute jaunt through the woods. – Justin Lowe, Hollywood Reporter, Jul 6, 2016

Fresh: The film is fiction, but you can see the ties of a real friendship at work here, and that is part of the charm. – Nina Metz, Chicago Tribune, Jul 11, 2016

Fresh: Everyone should have a friend like Flula (Flula Borg), a ridiculously optimistic German musician hiking with his American friend David (David Giuntoli) through the wilds of Oregon in the frequently funny "Buddymoon." – Tom Keogh, Seattle Times, Jun 30, 2016

Looks Cute

So happy for David and Kristof! I've seen David on Grimm and Kristof in small films like "Last Chance 2007." So happy to see them making it big!

David + Flula = YES!

You had me with David and Flula at the start but then the actual movie is even better. I want to go on this BUDDYMOON too!

Saw this at Slamdance and Loved It

So I saw this when it premiered at Slamdance, and I have to say it’s no accident that this won the audience award there. It was the most enjoyable movie I saw at either Sundance or Slamdance this year, hands down. I have to admit that I honestly didn’t know who David or Flula were before seeing this movie, but that had no impact whatsoever on my opinion. In short, Buddymoon (formerly Honey Buddies when I saw it) is truly a joy to watch. And the story behind the making of this movie only enhances how much it endeared itself to me. At the Q&A the filmmakers explained that they shot this in like 10 days on basically no money and paid for it themselves. The music, the cinematography, the comedy, the friendship….it all comes together in this thing. A true indie movie in every sense of the word.
Congratulations you guys and best of luck on the next movie! I highly recommend this puppy!
