Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Too bad for Knowles that she's only part of Darnell Martin's rushed mess of a movie that jams the story of Chicago-based Chess Records into one incoherent package. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: While the story could use a tighter focus, the ensemble is strong and the music makes Cadillac Records worth catching. – Claudia Puig, USA Today, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Martin, who also wrote the script, takes liberties with the Chess story, most notably dispensing altogether with Phil Chess. But "Cadillac Records" is such an exhilarating, spirited piece of work that its embellishments and omissions cease to matter. – Stephanie Zacharek, Salon.com, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: A good general rule is that if one performance is good, credit the actor. But if everyone in the movie is doing excellent work, this is no coincidence. This is the product of superior direction. – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, Jul 7, 2010

LOVED IT!!!

I thought the movie was INCREDIBLE. Even thought it wasn't 100% historically accurate. Beyonce's acting has come a long way and I give her 10,000 thumbs up. Columbus Short also gave an excellent performance. As far as the acting goes everything was on point in my opinion and ALL of the singing was above and beyond what I expected. Great Movie!

Fantastic!

I loved this film! It really shares the historical music that got us here today. I say it's worth every penny!

Exceptional

This film was very amazing. I gave it 4 out of 5 only because some of the film was unclear to me. It was a fairly long movie, and to explain everything would have made it even longer. Beyonce portrayed Etta James very well. Mos Def also did a very well job! Every song sung by Beyonce is extremely phenomenal! She has so much talent and never gets tiring. This movie has a brilliant cast. It is very moving, and it made me realize how much black people have affected our life. They wrote and sang the songs, and the white people copied it. This same message was delivered in "Dreamgirls", another great film (also starring Beyonce and WONDERFUL Jennifer Hudson). I will be out in stores to purchase this movie. You willl enjoy it!
