Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: You'll end up feeling about the film like Bobby about Los Angeles -- "half-bored, half-fascinated." And that's a pretty poor average, even for two poorly stitched-together films.
Fresh: Fortunately, even in its most insipid moments, Cafe Society is gorgeous to look at.
Fresh: Cafe Society reaches back into the past because [Woody Allen] wants to capture the nagging, ungraspable growth of lifelong regret.
Fresh: Arguably Allen's best-looking movie in colour. The script does feel like it's been cobbled togther by a computer program, but at least a computer program with access to the Woody archives: if nothing else, there's no doubt this is a Woody Allen movie.
Very Great Story!
Randomly turned this on and really enjoyed it!!! This movie pulled me in right away, such a fun watch :)
Not a Woody Allen fan at all and I loved this movie. I watched it as a fan of three of the lead actors, and was pleasantly surprised to walk away loving the movie. It has good characters and it flows really well.
Seriously dull. Hollywood producer's angst over love affair with younger woman / divorce with wife of many years. Jesse plays Woody Allen in Annie Hall. Kirsten plays herself, and doesn't really fit the movie. Not that it matters. I have no interest in middle-aged, married male angst about lost loves. Plot line just left me completely bored. A Woody Allen / Mia Farrow combo recast with a younger duo. Or is it a Woody Allen / Muriel Hemmingway combo recast with a younger Woody.
