About the Movie
A single mistake puts a 19-year old girl behind bars, where she experiences the terrors and torments of women in prison. Eleanor Parker received an Oscar nomination for her role, one of many fine performances elicited by noted director John Cromwell ("Abe Lincoln in Illinois," "The Enchanted Cottage"). Co-starring Agnes Moorehead ("Citizen Kane," TV's "Bewitched").
A brilliant performance by Eleanor Parker and outstanding work by a talented supporting cast give life to this harrowing look at women's prison. An excellent movie!
Anyone who knows anything about the genre knows that women in prison movies lean heavily towards exploitaion. Sometimes too much so. This is one of the only movies of the genre that doesn't go that way. Instead uses the idea of a young teen girls tragic mistake as a platform for an intriguing story that would still work today. If you like Orange Is The New Black or Wentworth then I would give this a shot because it is an incredible good take and tragic tale of what happens when the system fails and the repercussion of it failing.
