About the Movie

South Los Angeles. What comes to mind is gangs, drugs, liquor stores, abandoned buildings and vacant lots. The last thing that you would expect to find is a beautiful garden sprouting up through the concrete, coloring the urban landscape. As part of an urban gardening movement taking root in South LA, people are planting to transform their neighborhoods and are changing their own lives in the process. Calling for people to put down their guns and pick up their shovels, these “gangster gardeners” are creating an oasis in the middle of one of the most notoriously dangerous places in America. CAN YOU DIG THIS follows the inspirational journeys of four unlikely gardeners, discovering what happens when they put their hands in the soil. This is not a story of science and economics. This is a story of the human spirit, inspiring people everywhere to pick up their shovels and “plant some shit.”

Inspiring

I actually liked this documentary a lot. Not just a movie about plants, but has a deeper message. People gardening together brings communities together, you'll know your neighbors, youll know youre neighbors kids, and you can look out for one another.

Excellent

An inspiring and empowering documentary about community, hope, and the seeds we plant.

Wonderful Movie

Gardening is a escaping from the problems growing up in the inner cities! This documentary was beautifully done, I only wish their was NO cruising.
I would have recommended as a great family movie but because of the language, not recommending for kids to view.
Yes we plant but Our Great God Jehovah makes it grow,! 26 miles of dirt in this inner City should be turned over to the gentleman that went before the board to fight for his garden. It would feed the COMMUNITY AND GIVE THEM BETTER HEALTH, MORE IMPORTANTLY, THEY COULD TEACH THE YOUNGER GENERATION; How To MAKE CLEAN MONEY FROM WORKING HARD. HOPE THE CITY COMES TOGETHER TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.
