About the Movie

Singapore, February 9, 1942. The Japanese invasion is underway. Jim (Khan Chittenden), an Australian fighter pilot, wakes up dangling from a tree by his parachute strings somewhere in the middle of a vast jungle overrun by hostile forces. As night devours day, he forges into the danger he must navigate in search of sanctuary when he encounters a Singapore-Chinese resistance fighter, Seng (Tzu-Yi Mo), who, injured and frightened, also seeks to survive their tenuous surroundings and common enemy. The men realize that their only hope of persevering lies with each other as their journey begins the exploration of the collision of war, nature and its impact on humanity.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: While not much is said in the Australian director Aaron Wilson's small-scale first feature, "Canopy," the film conveys volumes about war and humanity. – Nicole Herrington, New York Times, Aug 28, 2014

Fresh: To the suddenly white-hot adventure subgenre of one or two souls alone against nature... add the more modestly scaled but no less absorbing wartime survival adventure "Canopy." – Eddie Cockrell, Variety, Aug 28, 2014

Rotten: A brave experiment in stripped-down, visceral filmmaking, writer-director Aaron Wilson's World War II drama "Canopy" is ultimately upended by its minimalist conceit. – Gary Goldstein, Los Angeles Times, Sep 11, 2014

Fresh: This is a film that eschews epic battle scenes and carnage to delve into the quieter, no less terrifying, moments of waiting and watching. – Megan Lehmann, Hollywood Reporter, Aug 28, 2014

How did this film get funded…?

This is an utterly terrible film and a waste of your time.

Only crowd funding would finance something like this.

Better luck next time, Aaron.

Worst movie I have seen in LONG time

PLEASE do not rent this and waste your time. Slow, inaccurate, nonsensical, disconnected, full of sophomoric camera angles and basically junk. I want the time I wasted on this back!
