About the Movie

From the director of Scarface comes the critically acclaimed crime thriller Carlito's Way. Oscar® winner Al Pacino gives on electrifying performance as former drug kingpin Carlito Brigante, who is sprung from prison by his high-powered attorney (Academy Award® winner Sean Penn). He stuns the New York underworld by vowing to go straight from a history of violence, but his plans are undermined by misguided loyalties and an outmoded code of honor. In a life-or-death battle, Carlito takes on the relentless forces that refuse to let him go. Co-starring John Leguizamo and Luis Guzman, Carlito's Way is a powerful, action-packed ride all the way to its explosive conclusion.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: "Carlito's Way" is best watched as lively, colorful posturing and as a fine demonstration of this director's bravura visual style. – Janet Maslin, New York Times, Jan 25, 2012

Fresh: A competent and solidly unsurprising urban-underworld thriller: De Palma's imitation of a middle-drawer Sidney Lumet movie. – Entertainment Weekly, Jan 25, 2012

Fresh: Penn, in curled hair and wire-rims, makes a brilliant, slippery high-end shyster; his modulated hysteria is amazing. So is Brian De Palma's direction. – Michael Sragow, New Yorker, Mar 23, 2015

Rotten: About halfway through, the overwhelming fact that the movie is a complete nothing becomes too much to ignore. – Hal Hinson, Washington Post, Jan 25, 2012

Classic

This is a gangster classic often overlooked. There is is Scarface, The Godfather trilogy and Carlito's Way. Come on now Jay-Z has tons of quotes from this classic and it is hot to say the least.
