About the Movie
In June 1967, with armies from Egypt, Jordan and Syria amassed on its borders, Israel launched a pre-emptive strike and achieved a stunning victory in just six days, tripling its territory and leading to the birth of modern Israel. As the nation brimmed with relief and pride, a narrative of manifest destiny quickly emerged. But lost in the euphoria were the voices of the returning soldiers with a more conflicted reality of the brief battlefield. Unearthing previously censored audio recordings captured only a week after the Six-Day War, CENSORED VOICES reveals young Israelis, including best-selling author Amos Oz, candidly wrestling with the immediate aftermath of the victory, and finds them again fifty years later to reflect on the complicated legacy of Israel as the past again erupts into the present.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: An essential amendment to the historical record, "Censored Voices" reminds us that no war is entirely virtuous and makes clear that, even at the time, the dangers of becoming an occupying force were evident.
Fresh: Politically charged and intermittently cutting, if slightly dry and repetitive ...
Fresh: Captivating newsreel footage from the conflict underscores these audio confessionals; Loushy also filmed the men in the present day, listening to their honest, open, decades-old testimonies.
Fresh: Expertly assembled across the board, Censored Voices tries and largely succeeds in providing a corrective to the idea that Israel's 1967 victory was a quick and clean operation.
