About the Movie

Twelve-year-old Latina math whiz Sammy Baca is a bit of a troublemaker, enlisting her frenemies Katie, Hannah and Emily to transform their school penny drive into a major moneymaking operation. As Sammy navigates the treacherous waters of middle school, her single mother Angela strives to get into medical school, but loses touch with her daughter in the process. Meanwhile, Sammy's math teacher Ms. Dyer pushes Sammy to reach her full potential. When the penny drive starts to fall apart, the girls turn on one another. After being bullied online and at school, Sammy comes up with a new plan. Only when the consequences of Sammy's actions circle back on her does she realize how far she has gone. Now, the one problem Sammy needs to solve is whether or not she can redeem herself.

Customer Reviews

A wonderful story of friendship and betrayal, and finding one's way as a young teen.

Family Entertainment

I highly recommend this great family movie for a evening of entertainment. With an additional opportunity to have open discussion between parents and kids, about adolescent peer pressure. This movie really makes you think and at the same time captures the essence of Junior High life with all it's drama and light moments. Wonderful cast!

A Sweet Story

This is a sweet story about girls, math, middle schools, bullying, and struggling families. I love the time and attention the director and producer put into building a believable middle-school world. The plot has a few confusing elements which may detract from the overall story, but it’s worth a watch for lots of good reasons, especially for middle school girls!
