About the Movie

Winner of 6 academy Awards, Chicago is a dazzling spectacle cheered by audiences and critics alike! Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Chicago has so much razzle-dazzle that viewers may end up both raised and dazed. It's remorselessly inventive, trying anything fast and sassy to keep you watching. – Richard Corliss, TIME Magazine, Feb 24, 2013

Fresh: With performers as good as these and the freshness of Bill Condon's screenplay and Marshall's direction, there's really very little wrong with Chicago. What it lacks is something intangible -- heat. – Ben Nuckols, Associated Press, Feb 12, 2014

Rotten: The film has punch, but it never really conveys the delicious, redeeming sense that life can be lived on the hoof. – Anthony Lane, New Yorker, Feb 24, 2013

Fresh: For sheer, audacious musical entertainment it tops last year's Moulin Rouge, and ranks among the greatest adapted Broadway shows ever. – Jack Mathews, New York Daily News, Feb 12, 2014

Two versions of this movie. Why buy this one?

Search iTunes for the other version of Chicago. Compare the details. Yes, this version has access to iTunes Extras, but the specs for this version says “Format Fullscreen” Seriously? This isn’t Widescreen? Perhaps more importantly, this 1080p copy is 4.57GB, while the 1080p copy of the other version of Chicago here on iTunes is 5.07GB, telling me this version is more heavily compressed which likely means a lower quality. While I would like access to iTunes Extras, I’m not willing to give up Widescreen, nor am I willing to accept a higher level of compression.

Unfortunate Closed Captions

Prospective buyers, please be advised the the captions for this version have been highly edited to remove or replace any degree of profanity, no matter how minor. References to religious figures or concepts in the film have been edited as well.

Considering that the audio track contains the original wording, it's baffling as to why someone felt the need to sanitize the closed captions to such a startling extent. Had I been aware of this before purchasing, I would have looked at the other version available.
