About the Movie
Jon Baker (Dax Shepard) and Frank “Ponch” Poncherello (Michael Peña) have just joined the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Los Angeles but for very different reasons. Baker is a beaten-up pro motorbiker trying to put his life and marriage back together. Poncherello is a cocky undercover Federal agent investigating a multi-million dollar heist that may be an inside job — inside the CHP. The inexperienced rookie and hardened pro are teamed together, but clash more than click, so kickstarting a partnership is easier said than done. But with Baker’s bike skills combined with Ponch’s street savvy it might just work…if they don’t drive each other crazy along the way.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: A fascination with posteriors - both human and feline - isn't the worst thing about "CHIPS," but it's up there.
Rotten: The harsh reality is that it's not very funny at all.
Rotten: Can a movie be cheekily self-aware and still thoroughly terrible? Without a doubt. And yet damned if "CHIPS" doesn't somehow make the most of its own wink-wink awfulness.
Rotten: I'm actually kind of shocked there aren't more homophobic gags here.
A Complete Insult to the Real CHiPS!!!
I fully agree with Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox (The Real Ponch and Baker), this film is a complete insult to the CHiPS and completely destroys the legacy of the beloved series. CHiPS was a cop show that was family friendly that even children could watch and see the police duo save the day. Now with this film children can not watch it because they soiled it with crud like language, graphic sex/nudity, homosexual innuendoes and who knows what else. Not to mention the casting is totally wrong especially to the character of Jon Baker. He looks and acts gay and stupid. Oh film was a total mis-cast. I don't know what it is about Hollywood taking classic shows and turning them into dirty films they done it to the Dukes of Hazard, Starsky and Hutch and now the upcoming Baywatch film plus of coarse this CHiPS film. I here they're making a new Knight Rider film, I hope they done ruin that as they did this and the classic shows. This is a sad and twisted generation they feed off of filth like this. Although I am physically part of this current generation I am not mentally I am very old-fashioned and I am ashamed to be part of this current generation. I have a feeling this film with be a complete flop and be one of this year's biggest box office bombs. I hope it is. To people of this current generation who might enjoy this film have a respect for your elders and classic shows because they made real television and movies. How would you feel if your future kids of the world who will be the next generation make fun of the films you make today? I guarantee you 100% you will NOT like it. But believe me it will happen. I will not be viewing this film not even if it was free. I would love to give this film no stars but the minimum they allow here is 1 star so that will have to suffice but know mentally it gets NO stars! I never make reviews in films because I don't think it does any good but I couldn't stand by with this because I hate seeing great classic shows be ruined to please the current generation of today. If you have any respect for the REAL CHiPS (and I hope you do) you WILL NOT watch it or recommend it to anyone because if you watch or recommend it then you are helping promote this garbage. Guess the garbage can has to eat to. To Hollywood and to anyone who watches and enjoys it I am very disappointed with you.
No PC here...
If the critics hate it, it is probably good. This is not like the TV show. This movie has thrown PC out the window. So if you are a special little snowflake and are offended by everything, stay away from this one. But for the rest of you normal people, see it! It was so funny!!
Really not that funny
I love these guys but it was hard to watch.
