Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Watching this movie, it seems to be the next level down from great -- maybe too episodic. But it burns in the memory weeks after you see it. – Mike Clark, USA Today, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Cold is right -- Anthony Minghella's pretty, star-studded adaptation of the bestselling Civil War romance never makes it above freezing. – Stephanie Zacharek, Salon.com, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: At 154 minutes, Cold Mountain is long and seems long, at times inspired, at times merely dutiful. But in most of the important ways, it succeeds. – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, Jan 15, 2004

Fresh: A film of many excellences undermined by a flawed narrative. – Andrew Sarris, New York Observer, Apr 26, 2007

Nicole Kidman's best role, and also wonderful acting from Jude Law. truly a lovely film from every angle: acting, directing, and cinematography. not a word for word adaptation of the book but where it embellishes it does so with grace and a restrained style befitting the author. ex: the paraphrased lines from a letter above. If you liked The English Patient and In The Bedroom, this film has similar style and pacing.
