About the Movie

In the past 26 years, 16 expeditions have tried and failed to climb one of Pakistan's 8,000 meter peaks in winter. On February 2, 2011, Simone Moro, Denis Urubko and Cory Richards became the first. Cory is now the only American to summit any 8,000 meter peak in winter. The journey nearly killed them. Cory carried a small camera and filmed the ordeal constantly. This is their story, as seen from the raw, honest perspective of Cory's lens. The film explores the interwoven roles of pain, mortality, doubt and community through the lens of Cory's experience, ultimately asking a broad audience to look at their own lives in new ways.

Customer Reviews

Inspiring and Intense

Wow, COLD is a authentic mountain story. This film really shows what it is like up on these high mountains and connects you deeply to the 3 climbers on the peak. Fantastic film!

Our socks are off

Wow! Beda Calhoun is right. This film absolutely blew our socks off. A very real account of winter alpinism and the emotions that goes with it. Highly recommend

A Snapshot Into The Psychology of Climbing

First, props to Cory and crew for their winter ascent of G2. This film gives you a 19 minute glimpse into the psyche of a man far removed from the comforts of the world, thrust into the frigid extremes of alpine existence. I gave this film 4 stars rather than 5 because, while I certainly believe it will resonate with fellow mountaineers, I don't think the content will appeal to the public. Don't get me wrong. For 19 minutes you peer into this man's soul, but you will only relate if you yourself have suffered on the side of a lonely alpine face.
