"Come See The Paradise" is a deeply touching love story set against the backdrop of a dramatic and controversial period in American history. It follows the romance of Jack McGurn (Dennis Quad), a hot blooded Irish American, and a beautiful Japanese American, Lily Dawanura (Tamlyn Tomita), at the outset of World War II. The clash of cultures, at once painful for the two lovers, becomes insurmountable after the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor. Lily and the Kawamuras are relocated to a bleak, outdoor internment camp in California; and Jack is drafted into the Army. But when Jack learns of the decree, he goes AWOL and returns to California to find his family.
not a proud time in Americanhistory
enjoyed the setting of the movie the acting was just ok, the lesson priceless, we as a nation should never for get what we did to our fellow Americans during those years--shame on us.--Yes the movie is worth viewing.
great acting except for dennis
Dennis Quaid was sooo bad at acting in this one. Oh my goshhh I wish they had chosen someone better to play the main guy. Even if he wasn't famous or anything, anybody would have been better than Dennis Quaid...
A great history lesson
This was a period I had not ever learned about in American history. Extremely heartwarming movie with a great lesson behind it. These people were treated as if they had committed a crime when they were just as American as everyone else. I thought the actors did an amazing job. The chemistry between Quaid and Tomita was absolutely incredible. It was very real but I do wish we had gotten to know the characters a bit better, and gotten more of Jack (Quaid)'s perspective. Overall, a different movie with a unique viewpoint, and a great revisit of history.
