About the Movie

Based on the DC Comics/Vertigo Hellblazer graphic novels and written by Kevin Brodbin and Frank Cappello, Constantine tells the story of John Constantine (Keanu Reeves), a man who has literally been to hell and back. When he teams up with skeptical policewoman Angela Dodson (Rachel Weisz) to solve the mysterious suicide of her twin sister, their investigation takes them through the world of demons and angels that exists just beneath the landscape of contemporary Los Angeles. Caught in a catastrophic series of otherworldly events, the two become inextricably involved and seek to find their own peace at whatever cost.

Decent Horro movie...

...bad compared to the comic. The original John Constantine doesn't use weapons, he doesn't need to. He has advanced knowledge of the rules of heaven, hell and human nature, to say just the right lies to get anything he wants. This "Constantine" feels like just another Hollywood goody-two-shoes with a gun. The only real good plotting going on at the end. The real Constantine is at war with both Heaven and Hell, as they both consider humans as dumb toys needing a leash, instead of intelligent beings. Which leaves John the desire to live as long as possible, seeing as how both ends hate him. The movie also missed on what makes Hellblazer one of the greatest stories around: social commentary. Like all good horror, it puts a mirror up to humanity to reveal it's dark side. If you want an good action-adventure with occult elements, this movies for you. If you want a literate stories with fierce intelligence and a character that’s easily relatable, read John Constantine: Hellblazer.
