Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Though the tale, based on a novel by Harold Frederic, remains relevant to our time, the film is too self-conscious and tedious for the message it delivers.
Rotten: "Copperhead" crams far too much of its action into its last 30 minutes after a rambling, drawn-out set up.
Rotten: The earnest but dry Civil War drama is for history buffs only.
Rotten: Sluggish drama ... defines this morality lesson about the unimpeachable virtue of loving thy neighbor.
Excellent period film.
Contrary to the critics reviews, including Arizona Republic stating the film "lacks a clear central plot", Copperhead carried the central theme throughout the movie. Copperhead focuses on the Constitution and the governmental deviation of the document's intent. Throughout US history, events have "occurred" that our government has utilized to take liberties with our Constition, rights and freedoms, governmental checks and balances, etc. The film also shows how people can be so one sided in their thoughts that they cannot be objective or tolerant to any other thought, and will "go crazy with fever". One of the last parts summed it up, "love thy neighbor".
The movie is slow moving, but I felt this was related to typical life in the 1860's. The scenery was beautiful. The detail appeared to be historically accurate. The characters were believable and the casting was excellent. I enjoyed the movie enough that I would watch again.
By the way, El Foco should rate based on the movie, not iTunes price gouging.
This is starting to be a rip off 7 dollars for a rental. Total crap
Very interesting look at a not so well known story
