Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: It's all vapid snark, didactic sermonizing and bewildering shock tactics. – Claudia Puig, USA Today, Aug 16, 2012

Fresh: It's like a dream that engages and drifts, until waking with a start in a finale that's as bracing and raw as the rest of the film is coolly distant. – Scott Tobias, NPR, Aug 16, 2012

Fresh: Despite the constrictions, Cronenberg keeps the space handsome and active. For long stretches, Cosmopolis is dreamy and funny, in an off-centered way. – David Denby, New Yorker, Aug 17, 2012

Fresh: Conventional it is not. Engrossing it is. – John Anderson, Wall Street Journal, Aug 16, 2012

Boring and pretentious I expected more from David Cronenberg.

Cronenberg brings DeLillo to life

Based on DeLillo book, Cosmopolis keeps his poetic dialogue in telling the cataclysmic day of a financial whiz who's in search of meaning to his life while finding he's losing his fortune. Takes place in Packer's limo with consequential meetings & run in's which lead to his fate. Hard film not everyone will enjoy & it's Cronenberg who revels in this creative filmmaking that explores darker aspects of life, but I really enjoyed it. Robert Pattinson finally got most to get over their sparkly vampire bias & it is his stand out performance thus far. Great scene with Paul Giamatti at the end when he comes to face his nemesis.

Not worth the time

The first 35 minutes are painful and slow, the story never gets started. Speeded through the rest to see if we were missing something. Nope.

Maybe if one have read the book it makes sense and come to life. But as a movie it doesn't bother.
