Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Its view of life is that a paradigm-shifting breakthrough, rather than being the product of either solitary genius or cultural ferment, amounts instead to a pretext and a substitute for therapy. – A.O. Scott, New York Times, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: For a movie that clearly seeks to bring Darwin to life, Creation spends an awful lot of time wallowing in death. – Ann Hornaday, Washington Post, Sep 24, 2011

Fresh: Jon Amiel, the film's director, tells his story with respect and some restraint, showing how sad and weakened Charles is and yet not ratcheting up his grief into unseemly melodrama. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: While the film's flashbacks and -forwards are disorienting, the performances give the film propulsion and poignancy. – Carrie Rickey, Philadelphia Inquirer, Jun 24, 2010

Response to No Bama

In response to No Bama, the only thing disappointing is your spelling. Besides, this movie is not about the theory of evolution. It is about the life of Charles Darwin. Also, that evolution occurs is about as well established in the scientific community as the fact that water is H2O.

we need more darwin films!

An enchanting story of the turmoil in Darwins life between the love of his family and his new found evidence for evolution. It's a good first step in creating an atheist film I wish for more, perhaps next time take a deeper look into his new findings into how radical they truly where. Also wouldn't mind a film on the life of the great Richard Dawkins.

I'm so glad I saw this film !

In the film , Charles Darwin : who having declared his non belief in a God , was asked if he had Faith . and it gave him and myself pause . I couldn't say what faith actually was .

So I looked it up in the Thesaurus . It classified the word "Faith" : as a noun with synonyms being : Trust , belief , confidence , conviction , optimism , hopefulness , and hope

Along with Religion , church , sect , denomination , (religious) persuasion ,(religious) belief , ideology , creed ,teaching and doctrine

And I realized that I actually shared some of those colorful qualities with the great Charles Darwin and with my religious brothers and sisters !

I haveTrust - that there is a goodness thriving in mankind .
I do believe - that I am an integral part of a chain of events that came before me and that will continue after me .
And I have confidence in the inherent reality of all things and in the ever expanding possibilities of honest inquiry and rational debate .

Optimism and hope seem illogical But somehow this movie has given me a little of both
I think I can see now that theres nothing inferior in a religious persons faith and that Religions need Blind faith To service but faith doesn't need Religion at all ! And Faith doesn't need to be blind !

I always thought of Charles Darwin the Scientist the Botanist the Anthropologist that was way out of my league but I found in this film that Me and Charlie are pretty much peas in a pod and that somehow gives me hope !
