The directorial-debut of screenwriter Brad Mirman (Truth or Consequences, N.M.), Crime Spree stars Gerard Depardieu as Daniel, the head of a trio of French crooks who cross the pond for a job in Chicago. Unfortunately, what was to have been a routine heist turns ugly when Daniel and his cohorts realize that they've ripped off Zammeti (Harvey Keitel), the head of a powerful crime family. Before they know it, the threesome find themselves strangers in a strange land being hunted by both the mafia and the FBI.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The most striking thing one might note about Crime Spree is just how it manages to make so much look bad while adding up to so little. – Geoff Pevere, Toronto Star, 24 jun, 2010

Rotten: Funny? Not quite. Thrilling. Not really. So what's the point? – Liam Lacey, Globe and Mail, 24 jun, 2010

Well I loved it...

If you are a fan of the movies Lock Stock & 2 Smokin' barrels, RocknRolla & Snatch, then this film is just for you. Yea it does have cheesy camera angles and cheap settings, but the adventure itself is both enjoyable and hilarious. Plot is very similar to the movies I stated above about how every character wants the same thing, and the other characters (which are the main ones) suffer a lot of dilemmas for having it in their posession. Out of ten stars, I give it a 7/10

A great movie, if you have lived in both cultures.

This is a great movie, for a very limited audience. You need to have lived both in the US and French-speaking Europe to be able to appreciate the humor. Johnny Hallyday (the French Elvis) and Renaud (the French Bob Dylan), share a few lines that won't do much for you if you are not familiar with their history and repetoire. The ghetto and mob humor is really not meaninful to French people who have not lived in the states and have not seen the myriad of Mafia films that the US has cranked out in the last 40 years. Add to that the almost deliberate downplay of the classic lines such as C'est quoi root beer? and you have a long movie full of inside jokes that are not easy to get inside of.

Don't get me wrong, I love it, but I have watched it with people on both sides of the Atlantic and a number of them have had quizzical looks after a part that has me rolling on the floor?
