Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: With its European locations, electro-thump score, and near-ceaseless violence, the movie plays like something tooled in French producer-scripter Luc Besson's factory for international action mashups. – Mark Jenkins, NPR, Apr 14, 2016

Rotten: Guns, gore and good actors shoehorned into one-note parts. – Sara Stewart, New York Post, Apr 14, 2016

Rotten: Given the lurid, stupid, loony and unintentionally laughable nature of this espionage thriller, I found some measure of entertainment studying the vastly different approaches taken by Costner, Jones and Oldman. – Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times, Apr 14, 2016

Rotten: Egregiously silly, generic ... – Steven Rea, Philadelphia Inquirer, Apr 15, 2016

Costner is Back

Kevin Costner has been doing movies again, and it would seem that he has honed his skills while he was away. “Criminal” is a compelling movie concerning an utterly dispassionate person who learns what it is to care about someone other than himself and his current wants. The movie is intricate, but with a predictable element, hence only four stars instead of five. The characters are well-developed and stand on their own. Overall, this movie is very much worth the watch.

Entertaining and Modern

While I wouldn't plop down 15 bucks to buy it, Criminal is a well made action movie with high tech gadgetry and is easy on the eyes and ears.

Well suited for a rental night and a mood where you just don't feel like thinking for some mindless entertainment. Plently of plot holes, but not enough to make you mad about.

Great opening cameo scene with Ryan Reynolds transitions well into the story. Acting is pretty good, though Costner was a little over the top, everyone else does a good job. Check it out if you want something fast paced and fresh looking.
