Plot Summary

Still single seven years after his marriage breakup, John (John C. Reilly) has all but given up on romance. But to his and everyone else's surprise, he manages to meet the gorgeous and spirited Molly (Marisa Tomei) at a party. Their chemistry is immediate but Molly is oddly reluctant to take the relationship beyond John's house. John follows her home and discovers the other man in Molly's life: her son, Cyrus (Jonah Hill). Cyrus is his mom's best friend and will go to any lengths to protect Molly and is definitely not ready to share her with anyone. Soon the two are locked in a battle of wits for the woman they both love — and only one man can be left standing when it's over!

Fresh: Jonah Hill delivers a craftier comic performance than anything in his box-office hits, but what really elevates the story above its shticky premise is the combined neuroses of all three characters. – J. R. Jones, Chicago Reader, Jun 25, 2010

Rotten: The questions here are good; it's the answers that feel like a cheat. – Rick Groen, Globe and Mail, Jun 25, 2010

Customer Reviews

This is not a funny movie.

I rented this because I was looking for something funny. This is not it. It was a decent film, just not what I was expecting from these actors.

if you don't like it you will hate it but i'm talking to a very very very very small percentage of the people that watched it.

the other 99 percent of the people who watched it and loved it know how fantastic it is. It's a diamond in the rough that most people didn't really even know about when it came out. I dragged 5 of my friends to see it that had no idea what it was and when it was over they considered it one of the best movies they watched this year.

leave your preconceived notions for Riley at the door because the plot, character development, relationships, everything is on point. It's a very realistic depiction of life and the human experience. People are funny but they don't have the same humor as what you see in great comedies. Riley and Jonah Hill are able to depict reality and all of it's dark, subtle, and weird quirks. The stuff everyone laughs about everyday are brought to life in the film. The bad times, good times, and everything in between are fully realized in this story and acted out in a way that everyone can find something to laugh about. If you open your mind to the idea that Riley is more than just a comedian you will like this movie.

i love this film

Fantastic Movie

I thought this movie was great in all aspects. Amazing actors, very funny and a different story plot than you would think. It was somewhat predictable in a sense but then when you thought you knew what was going to happen next, the immediate plot changed. I recommend this movie to ANYONE looking to sit in their seat for 1.5 hours and be thoroughly satisfied. Great work.
