Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Daddy Day Camp is a recruiting poster for kids, insisting that there's no domestic problem that military values can't solve. – Matt Zoller Seitz, New York Times, Jul 22, 2014

Rotten: Because he's an Oscar winner with a rep now for headlining turkeys, watching Cuba Gooding Jr. in trash like Daddy Day Camp almost hurts. – Gregory Kirschling, Entertainment Weekly, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: The acting is atrocious and more obvious than you see in many high school or college productions. The jokes are stale. The storyline is so predictable, I'll bet nearly everyone in the theater will guess what happens next. – Bill Zwecker, Chicago Sun-Times, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: The juvenile actors come off as movie brats, and the pacing is slowed by treacly speeches about father-son bonding. As a child star on The Wonder Years, director Fred Savage worked with some of TV's best, but you'd never guess it from this. – Andrea Gronvall, Chicago Reader, Jun 24, 2010

No Cookie!

Not for Adults. Watch Ernest Goes To Camp or Camp Nowhere! Those would be better than this and you would pretty much watch everything that's in this movie in those. Completely unoriginal. Bad script, not at all funny. All the jokes had been used and just seemed planted. Lets do this gross thing here because that's what they did in the last movie. Let's have this person get hurt here, let's have this thing explode here, let's embarrass this person here...I laughed once! Literally, once! This was a huge disappointment as the sequel to a movie I thoroughly enjoyed! I also have a problem with those who create a sequel and don't have enough creative minds to simply create new characters when they can't get the original leads. They put Cuba in a role that Eddie Murphy originally played! How different could those two guys be?! Bad call! I assumed when I saw Cuba was doing this, that they were just going with different characters altogether, just a similar premise. I was disappointed in so many ways. Cuba was at his worst. I love Cuba. I've always felt he was a great comedian as well as a profound man of drama, but his choices lately have been hugely disappointing. This can go in with the rest of the bad ones. Take me back to the days of Men of Honor and Radio, Cuba!! None of the kids were cute, interesting, or funny. Just 100% annoying! The actors were all horrible except for Tamala Jones who played Cuba's wife. She managed a decent delivery but there wasn't much to her character and she honestly had the best of the script. I didn't realize it until this morning when I woke up that I fell asleep on the end of the movie. That's just how bored I was! It triggered uncontrollable slumber! So, as I said before, I would think this movie might be entertaining for younger audiences, I don't know. But, definitely not for adults.
