Plot Summary

Matthew McConaughey gives the performance of his career in this uplifting and powerful film inspired by true events. Texas cowboy Ron Woodroof (McConaughey) sees his free-wheeling life overturned when he’s diagnosed as HIV-positive and given 30 days to live. Determined to survive, Woodroof decides to take matters in his own hands by tracking down alternative treatments from all over the world by means both legal and illegal. After finding an unlikely ally in Rayon (Jared Leto), he establishes a hugely successful “buyers’ club” and unites a band of outcasts in a struggle for dignity and acceptance that inspires in ways no one could have imagined. Co-starring Jennifer Garner, Dallas Buyers Club is “deeply moving. A livewire of a movie!” (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone)

Fresh: A solid biopic is made transcendent by McConaughey, who shed nearly 50 pounds and deserves to gain an Oscar for his ferocious, funny performance. – Rafer Guzman, Newsday, Nov 14, 2013

Fresh: Just about everything is right with Dallas Buyers Club, beginning with Matthew McConaughey's literally transformative portrayal. – Steven Rea, Philadelphia Inquirer, Nov 15, 2013

Fresh: The AIDS epidemic was not a happy-ending story. But it was certainly a test of the human spirit. Ron Woodroof passed that test. – Tom Long, Detroit News, Dec 31, 2013

Fresh: This incredible film charts one man's determination to stay alive against astounding odds and, most tantalisingly, supporting the very people that he despised. – Colin Fraser, FILMINK (Australia), Feb 21, 2014

ANY IDEAS ON WHERE TO GET/SEE?

This story reminds me of my HS & college years. I lived the life then went to work in an ICU unit as a critical care RN taking care of some of the first AIDS PTs admitted to the local ICU in Beverly Hills. VERY TOUGH DAYS they were not only doing nursing care in a space -age outfit when we entered the PTs rooms but dealing with the poor families who had to cope with seeing their 17-30 y/o family members die a relatively slow and "labeled" death. I was hoping I could rent the movie from iTunes but currently not a possibility. I have looked all around at large & small theaters. I keep missing the movie by a day. Is this a Sundance movie? If so that would explain it being hidden until Sundance opens up. Anybody know how to get tickets for Sundance movies? This is a must for me from what I have read and most people to get an idea what we all could have gone through living a gay life in the 70-mid 80s. A lot of suffering went on and as an RN working with critical care AIDS PTs also a lot of unnecessary suffering . I guess 20/20 hindsight is not replaceable. Let us all try to never forget the initial AIDS pts who basically were our guinea pigs. What a blessing we have come so far. I am really excited to see this movie. It will bring back a lot of good and not so good memories!

One of the years best

The acting in this movie by Leto and mathew mcchonuhay is mind blowing mathew and Leto most likely will both win oscars and boy do they deserve it the story was also great as was the dialogue and direction of this film mathew steals every scene he's in as does Leto with a great transformation it truly ends with a great message and portrays one mans struggle to help when no one could

Becoming a McConaughey fan

I'll be honest, I've never been a big MM fan. However, his performance in DBC was exceptional. It was hard to watch the treatment of people with HIV and the gay community in general back then. The FDA, pharmaceutical companies and our current medical system are unfortunately no better now then they were back then. Still a bunch of crooks and I was glad to see them portrayed the way they were. Very accurate. Loved Jared Leto too!
