About the Movie

Academy Award® nominee Gary Oldman gives a "towering performance" (Richard Lawson, Vanity Fair) in acclaimed director Joe Wright's soaring drama Darkest Hour. As Hitler's forces storm across the European landscape and close in on the United Kingdom, Winston Churchill (Oldman) is elected the new Prime Minister. With his party questioning his every move, and King George VI (Ben Mendelsohn) skeptical of his new political leader, it is up to Churchill to lead his nation and protect them from the most dangerous threat ever seen. Also starring Academy Award® nominee Kristin Scott Thomas and Lily James, Darkest Hour is a powerful, inspirational drama.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: As played by [Gary] Oldman, Churchill has perhaps never seemed greater. Or more human – Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times, Dec 7, 2017

Rotten: Darkest Hour invites viewers inside the heart and mind of a great leader but never really captures his deep rapport with the British people, which turned out to be one of his greatest political assets. Dunkirk takes a more populist approach. – J. R. Jones, Chicago Reader, Dec 7, 2017

Fresh: Churchill, by way of Darkest Hour, hands the actor some of the best speeches of his career, and Oldman brings them vividly to life. – Gary Thompson, Philadelphia Inquirer, Dec 14, 2017

Fresh: "Darkest Hour" is a one man show for Oldman. And what a show it is. – Adam Graham, Detroit News, Dec 8, 2017

Darkest Hour

Though it’s a little slow I still love this movie

I can say that Gary Oldman became Sir Winston. This movie was incredible. And watch it after Dunkirk...they are perfect companion pieces to each other. That Underground scene gave me goosebumps...bravo.
