About the Movie
Academy Award® nominee Gary Oldman gives a "towering performance" (Richard Lawson, Vanity Fair) in acclaimed director Joe Wright's soaring drama Darkest Hour. As Hitler's forces storm across the European landscape and close in on the United Kingdom, Winston Churchill (Oldman) is elected the new Prime Minister. With his party questioning his every move, and King George VI (Ben Mendelsohn) skeptical of his new political leader, it is up to Churchill to lead his nation and protect them from the most dangerous threat ever seen. Also starring Academy Award® nominee Kristin Scott Thomas and Lily James, Darkest Hour is a powerful, inspirational drama.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Churchill, by way of Darkest Hour, hands the actor some of the best speeches of his career, and Oldman brings them vividly to life.
Fresh: In Darkest Hour, Wright's charged, blustery framework pulls the audience into a distant political landscape. But his approach here is also limiting and nearly wearying.
Rotten: It's when Churchill is at his most beleaguered that Darkest Hour spirals off into the further realms of fantasy.
Fresh: Gary Oldman immerses himself in the character, giving every aspect of Churchill a memorable resonance, from his sense of humour, to his mastery of language to his short temper and bursts of humility.
Though it’s a little slow I still love this movie
I can say that Gary Oldman became Sir Winston. This movie was incredible. And watch it after Dunkirk...they are perfect companion pieces to each other. That Underground scene gave me goosebumps...bravo.
Movie on leadership
Absolutely brilliant! Oldman deserves the OSCAR for this performance.
