Steve Talley and Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts star in Deadline, the story of the murder of an African American youth in rural Alabama that has gone uninvestigated, unsolved and unpunished for almost twenty years. But that changes when Nashville Times reporter Matt Harper meets an idealistic young blueblood bent on discovering the truth. Harper undertakes the investigation despite the opposition of his publisher, violent threats from mysterious forces, a break-up with his fiancée and his father's cancer diagnosis. Deadline is a story of murder, family, race, and of redemption — for a small Southern town and for Matt Harper.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Too lifeless for Lifetime and too inept to do justice to its source material...
Rotten: Although helmer Curt Hahn champions the causes of racial justice and crusading journalism, he can't seem to find a tone that's consistent or that befits the gravity of his subject matter.
Rotten: Has all the dramatic punch of a community theater production.
Rotten: The fact that real-life deadly racial animus in America is often cartoonish in its manifestation doesn't excuse Deadline's cliche-ridden characterizations of bigotry.
A great and well acted story which has its roots in the truth.Support was a mile deep from national premiers audiences who are tired of sci-fi and super humans.Great score from Dave Perkins which tapped the essence of this thriller.I think Eric Roberts nailed it.
I'm sorry, ignore the Rotten Tomatoes thing. This movie is really timely especially with everything going on with the Trayvon Martin case. If you like good detective reporting and love Eric Roberts (hot!) this is your movie!
Fascinating look into the realities of being a reporter in today's world, balancing economic reality and the values that make people want to be journalists. Very enjoyable and highly recommended.
