Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: A soft-hearted but soberly made little movie that gives sentimentality a good name.
Fresh: I'm pleased to report that, within this overly familiar trope, there's plenty of room for small surprises, not the least of which are delightful, understated performances all around.
Fresh: The pain that's evoked in this small, warm film -- the deep and unspoken yearning of child -- is as universal as it is heartbreaking.
Full of Surprises both endearing and enraging
This was an unexpected jewel of a movie. Not a Hollywood production which gives this movie believability. Definately worth the rent.
Not a bargain bin film
This film is by no means earth shattering: it is a bit of a single-mom fantasy fulfillment film. But, it is decently written, well acted, and Gerard Butler eats up the screen during the few times he is present. He hardly says a word, but he becomes the center of gravity at the moment of his first appearance. So fans of his would certainly not want to miss this quiet drama.
This is such a sweet movie. While the ending was a disappointment to me, I thought it was so cute the relationship that formed between Frankie and his "dad". Gerard butler is great in this, I really liked it :)
