Cole Ray Davis is a transgender Christian teen, coming of age in a conservative Bible belt community. Meet Spazz: A 17-year-old devout Christian girl growing up in the small rural town of Deep Run, North Carolina. She is the first person, ever, to come out as gay at her high school. Unaccepted by her family, she spends most of her time with her girlfriend, Leslie. Leslie begins a relationship with a man; Spazz loses her only supportive family member to cancer. She questions her faith and considers suicide. Deep in depression, she gets a text from an old high school friend, Ashley. Neither of them could predict that this was the beginning of a new romance. As their relationship deepens, Spazz gains the confidence to come out as transgender. He is now Cole Ray Davis. The couple move into their first house and talk about the future. They long to be welcomed at a church but cannot find acceptance. They live in an economically depressed community and are unable to find steady jobs. Ashley is overwhelmed from juggling college classes while working nights. Tensions begin to rise. So close to losing everything, yet the bond between them deepens. The couple find strength in the power of personal prayer and in their small community of friends.
