About the Movie
A new and award winning American film, DETROIT UNLEADED is a hilarious and fresh boy-meets-girl urban comedy set in Detroit. When an ambitious young man, Sami, is forced to take over his family’s gas station after the shooting death of his father, his life changes in unexpected ways. Behind the bulletproof glass, Sami reluctantly runs the family business with his cousin (Mike Batayeh from “Breaking Bad”), a charismatic hustler with dreams of expanding into an unleaded empire. Within this unique Detroit neighborhood, their gas station becomes more than just a pit stop for rolling papers and fake perfume, but a place where a steady stream of spirited characters come and go with humor and heart. When a gorgeous "up-do girl" named Najlah comes to deliver cheap long-distance phone cards, Sami quickly falls for her. Afraid her overprotective brother Fadi will disapprove, Najlah begins an under-the-counter romance with Sami and his shift becomes anything but routine.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: "Detroit Unleaded" is about as gentle as comedies come these days, commendably so.
Fresh: Lebanese-American helmer Rola Nashef delivers a lively slice-of-life in this mainstream-friendly romantic comedy largely set at a Detroit gas station.
Fresh: [The characters] feel not like types but, rather, like diverse individuals.
Rotten: Big of heart but small of impact, the Arab-American rom-com "Detroit Unleaded" has all the kick of watered-down ethanol.
Took a chance on a local movie, I'm from the suburbs of Detroit, and I loved it! Great diverse cast that delivers in all aspects..great shots from throughout the Detroit area! Highly recommend!!
Detroit Unleaded MUST SEE!
I really adored “Detroit Unleaded.” It was entertaining with a realistic feel to it, and I was able to relate to the main character. I, too, wanted to leave home and find my own passion in life and search for that ‘American Dream.’ The chemistry between the cast made the relationships come to life and it was so interesting to see the different bonds in an Arab culture. For instance, the siblings, the cousins, and the employee-to-customer relationships were all so different from my own culture and it was fascinating to me. It was a unique movie because it contained romance, but it didn’t center around it, which made it refreshing. Very enjoyable!
So nice to see Arab Americans portrayed as the good, loving, aspiring, hardworking people they are. Wonderfully written without any gratuitous sex, violence or vulgarity. I laughed and cried.
