Based on the famed detective hero of the comics, the story finds legendary police detective DICK TRACY in 1938 Chicago attempting to stop the crime spree of BIG BOY CAPRICE. His girlfriend, TESS TRUEHEART, wants to settle down to a quiet life. Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Summer hasn't officially arrived yet, but it's unlikely to offer a big-budget commercial movie as thoroughly entertaining as this stylish real-life cartoon.
Fresh: Beatty and his team of collaborators have heightened the vibrantly tawdry urban night world of Chester Gould's classic comic strip.
Rotten: For all its superficial pleasures, Dick Tracy ultimately flounders because it provides an audience with nothing to take home and dream about.
Fresh: This is a movie in which every frame contains some kind of artificial effect. An entire world has been built here, away from the daylight and the realism of ordinary city streets.
Not perfect, but a good try.
It was priceless watching Al Pacino at the fool playing Big Boy Caprice as well as Dustin Hoffman as Mumbles and Paul Sorvino as Lipps Manus. The supporting cast was great. The art direction, set design and wardrobe gave the film a "comic strip" feel. It's eye catching.
This movie is visually stunning, the vivid colors and art direction make it look like the pages of a comic book have come to life. Danny Elfman provides a music score that goes perfectly with the film. Great costumes and makeup add to this comic masterpiece. Last but not least, a top notch cast who make this movie worth watching!
This movie is my favorite 😀👍🏼
