About the Movie
Tracks the tumultuous rise of two talented musicians, Anton Newcombe, leader of the Brian Jonestown Massacre; and Courtney Taylor, leader of the Dandy Warhols; dissecting their star-crossed friendship and bitter rivalry. Both are hell-bent on staging a self-proclaimed revolution of the music industry. Through their loves and obsessions, gigs and recordings, arrests and death threats, uppers and downers--and ultimately to their chance at a piece of the profit-driven music business--how each handles his stab at success is where the relationship frays and burns.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: [An] unflinching look at the rock world.
Fresh: After watching your [Anton's] tantrums, abuse and addiction in DIG! I went straight to the record store to buy your music. And that's something.
Fresh: I don't know that I've seen a film that better captures the tension between authenticity and ambition that bedevils modern rock music -- the sense that a mass audience is something to be desired and detested at one and the same time.
Fresh: It's a classic music soap opera, but never told with a more raw scream for help at its center.
Show's the genius of Anton....
....and the depths of his self-indulgence. While the fundamental story line is about the rivalry between the two bands, and the disfunction within BJM, on closer inspection you will see the brilliance of BJM's music, and the relative shallowness of the Dandy's tunes. All in all, a fabulous documentary, despite Newcombe's attempts to distance himself from it.
It good. Me Like. :)
I really enjoyed this movie. As tour movies go this really is excellent. I've been a Dandys fan for a long time and would liked to have seen more of Courtney, Zia and rest of the band, but the BJM is just such a wacky band just waiting to have a movie made about them. Anton is quite possibly mentally ill to the point of being dangerous to himself and others, but getting to watch his epic, well known, toddler style melt downs is worth the admission!
So if you like rock n roll tour movies watch this one!
