Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: A modest cultural artifact if one largely devoid of aesthetic interest.
Rotten: Insurgent stubbornly fails to surge.
Rotten: This second installment, based on Veronica Roth's series of YA novels, feels cobbled together and less focused than 2014's Divergent, and lacks tension and excitement.
Rotten: The final Divergent book will be split into two movies, a future that is indeed a little dystopian. Much brighter, though, are the blossoming careers of Woodley and Teller.
Don't listen to the Critics!
After seeing so many movies about dystopian societies you might expect me to be done with the genre. This movie is proof that the genre is definitely an engaging one. The Divergent series has always been one of my favorites. While some will try to compare it to other trilogies such as the Hunger Games, you cannot compare the two. While the story may have some similarities I still end up liking the Divergent series more because it has a more interesting plot. While the Hunger Games may be more realistic and may have better as far as filming goes the Divergent series is a lot more fun to watch. Insurgent sets up the series well, and some might say it even concludes it, but It leads me wanting more and more. While it may not be the best film it is still one of my favorites and is sure to leave you excited for the next one.
Boring and not as good as the first
the first part of the movie was all over the place. No direct plot points. However, in the second half, it did focus up. Also, the action scenes were pretty good, so that’s why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. A big thing was that the actors seemed really bored. The only good actress was Shailene Woodley (Tris). She tried to save this movie, but the other actors brought it down. Much worse than the first, and a big let down. Just go in with low expectations as I did. Also, this movie would be more enjoyable if you are drunk.
Even worse than the first.
While the movie was packed with action scenes, the film, like the first one, has no energy or excitement. I felt absolutely nothing for any of the characters, well, maybe some strong dislike. And for scenes that were supposed to be amusing, it seemed like they were trying way too hard. I felt no triumph when the “good guys” won or when the "bad guys" lost. Not worth seeing. One of the most boring movies I have ever seen.
