About the Movie

Reinhardt, elegantly interpreted by Reda Kateb (A Prophet, Zero Dark Thirty), is the toast of 1943 Paris, thrilling audiences with his distinctive brand of “hot jazz” and charming his admirers including his muse played by Cécile de France (Hereafter, Chinese Puzzle). But even as the rise of Nazism forces Reinhardt — whose music is considered degenerate under the Third Reich — to make a daring escape from Paris, he refuses to be silenced as his music becomes a form of protest. Reda Kateb’s performance is simply impressive and will certainly please all fans of Django. A spirited biopic that will keep audiences on their tapping toes.

Rotten: "Django" will leave fans of the legend merely eager to return to their beloved recordings and let their ears take in the greatness. – Robert Abele, Los Angeles Times, Jan 18, 2018

Fresh: Despite all the narrative embellishments, the movie does maintain a sense of Reinhardt's persona along with his incredible musical abilities, especially in a trio of concert scenes that highlight each act. – Jordan Mintzer, Hollywood Reporter, Feb 9, 2017

A great biopic with historical background

Amazing story of this great artist of a singular style. The WWII background story gives it a thrilling ambiance as well.

great Biopic of Django Reinhardt

Really enjoyed this film. Great story, I learnt a lot about Django's life. And Reda Kated is doing an amazing performance...

Historic Musician, Story Well Told

4.35 stars.

The story of Romas persecuted as bad as others of the genocide of the Third Reich finally gets its day in Cinema. And wrapped around the life and music of Django's life in this most treacherous time in Europe, we get history and scintillating music.

It's a few beats below great, but very good and very entertaining.

As his elegiac composition become a final piece, there is a sense of more could have been done with the story and the film.

But, savor it for yourself. Good performances and a bit of a thriller as the nazis chase him through snow-filled forest and over mountains.
