About the Movie

Legendary filmmaker Paul Schrader directs this “sordid and engaging crime drama” (The Hollywood Reporter) starring Academy Award® winner Nicolas Cage (Leaving Las Vegas) and Academy Award® nominee Willem Dafoe (Platoon). Ex-cons Troy (Cage), Mad Dog (Dafoe) and Diesel (Christopher Matthew Cook) are hired by an eccentric mob boss to kidnap a baby for a large ransom. When the abduction goes awry, the trio find themselves on the run from the mob and the cops. Vowing to stay out of prison at all costs, getting away with the crime is literally a matter of life and death.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Too often the movie is content to come off like a cranky old uncle who's seen a lot more crime movies than you have. – Glenn Kenny, New York Times, Nov 3, 2016

Rotten: The film might have taken a more original route to perdition. You can never guess what wild-eyed prank Schrader will pull next, but his characters are more predictable. – Mark Jenkins, NPR, Nov 3, 2016

Fresh: Schrader thrusts the amoral ugliness onto the screen in puckishly cold compositions suffused with screechingly acidulous colors. – Richard Brody, New Yorker, Nov 7, 2016

Fresh: Dog Eat Dog occasionally positions itself as social commentary, but it's mainly a bloody, trippy, bare-fanged pulp thriller featuring terrifically entertaining performances from old dogs Cage and Dafoe. – Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times, Nov 10, 2016

Horrible film

Cage and DeFoe must have needed some quick cash otherwise I can't imagine why they would have made this movie. Horrible, stupid plot, bad acting, just altogether lousy. Don't waste your money.

You've been warned

Not worth a penny more than a $0.99 rental on a day when there is nothing on TV

Dog for sure

This movie starts off bad and gets worse minute by minute. As much I like Nicolas Cage and a even creepy Daweirdo they couldn't pull this one off.
Not one thing about this movie has any redeeming value. If you think you feel bad the first 10 to 15 minutes of watching this movie nothing can prepare you for an even worse ending if you make it that far
