The alternate version of the prequel to "The Exorcist." Having lived through traumatizing events in WWII, Father Merrin (Stellan Skarsgaard, "King Arthur," "Deep Blue Sea") takes a break from the Church to conduct archaeological excavations in British-administered East Africa, where he digs out what appears to be a pagan church dedicated to a demon. Uncovering the unholy site allows the demon to escape from its hellish prison, and Merrin must battle to contain its evil - a battle that, unknown to the priest, will not conclude until the final moments of the original "Exorcist." Also stars Gabriel Mann ("The Bourne Identity," "The Bourne Supremacy"), Clara Bellar ("Artificial Intelligence: AI") and Ralph Brown ("Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace"). Directed by Golden Globe-nominated Paul Schrader.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: There's no escaping that Dominion is finally an act of commercial scavenging.
Rotten: Schrader's film is a notch better than Harlin's (it's elegantly framed, and stately where the other one was music-video pushy), but when you boil out the demon feathers...it's the same damn movie.
Rotten: Marred by some of the same problems as Harlin's version -- namely, weak supporting characters, unintentionally funny dialogue and poorly executed special effects.
Rotten: The Schrader variation is awfully dull, with scant evidence of the sort of things that make horror movies attractive -- like mounting suspense and spine-tingling creepiness and, oh yeah, the element of horror.
This ones better.
Not meant for morons
Good film that had the same feel as the 1973 film. But I must warn you, this film is meant for people with triple digit IQs.
This movie was soo boring the only "horror" part was when you first see the guy get possessed. Change the genre from horror to a horrible thriller.
