About the Movie

Peter Latang (Jesse Wakeman) left working class Warwick, Rhode Island to reinvent himself as a slick, Wall Street mover and shaker. Fifteen years later, when he's forced to return home to bury his Grandmother he loses his wallet on the trip. Stranded, the only person he can think of to help him out is his next door neighbor and former childhood friend Donald Treebeck (Kris Avedisian). Donald hasn't changed a bit, and what starts as a simple favor turns into a long van ride into their past.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: The movie forcefully reminds you that the past you thought you had left behind still hurts, and that the old wounds you imagined had healed have simply been covered over. – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Mar 2, 2017

Fresh: Waterworks are sparse in "Donald Cried," but there's plenty of anxious, cringe-inducing humor to be found in writer-director-star Kris Avedisian's comedy of discomfort. – Nick Schager, Variety, Mar 13, 2016

Fresh: Simultaneously tense, funny and melancholic, "Donald Cried" could almost be called "Man-Child by the Sea." – Robert Abele, Los Angeles Times, Mar 2, 2017

Fresh: In a bitterly funny performance, Avedisian lets Donald's freak flag fly, a big-toothed grin lighting up his face, framed by a shaggy haircut not deliberate enough to be a mullet. – Serena Donadoni, Village Voice, Feb 28, 2017

A Micro-Budget Indie That Shines

First-time director Kris Avedisian (who also plays the man-child title character Donald) accurately depicts an awkward reunion over. 24 hour period among childhood friends with dialog that feels real, is funny but not forced, and is also puts uncomfortable moments on display (a good thing). Jesse Wakeman, who plays Peter, excels with his portrayal of the agitated city slicker forced to revisit the suburban surroundings of his past. Beautifully shot during a Rhode Island winter at full tilt, Donald Cried will restore your faith in independent film. Ted Arcidi and Louisa Krause, although their roles are minor, are also incredibly well-acted and deserve praise.
Don't miss this uber-low budget gem.

Think

An indie treat. This movie is full of emotion, laughter, Uncomfortable and thought provoking. Take a look inside yourself, who you are, what you want, how you treat others. Fun and worth the price of admission!

Buffalo 66 / Napoleon Dynamite

Much much better than trailer indicates. It's funnier and much more sad and emotional. "Cringe comedy" is a term thrown out a lot but I suppose is appropriate. Great performances and a very real and lived in world. Rent it.
