Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: A grim horror-comedy that amuses only when it tries to alarm. – Guy Lodge, Variety, Apr 24, 2012

Rotten: It doesn't totally take off until the final act, but there's evidence here that Ryan Andrews will become a force to be reckoned with. – Peter Bradshaw, Guardian, Apr 19, 2012

Rotten: There are moments when even the actors seem embarrassed to be there. – Jessica Lambert, Little White Lies, Apr 19, 2012

Rotten: There's a hint of camp pleasure to be gained from the film's early soft-focus domestic scenes and late hysterics, but 'Elfie Hopkins' is sunk by a lame script and mannered performances. – Dave Calhoun, Time Out, Apr 19, 2012

I liked it!

The right amount of creepiness(the new neighbors turn out to be cannibals) without having to be "horrific" to get under the viewer's skin.As someone who does not and will not watch movies that are extremely gory and bloody, I would take exception with the reviewers comments about "gratuitous gore". Did it make me uncomfortable at times..... yes, but not to the point that I had to fast forward through it or decide not to finish watching (just turned my head away for a few scenes). The film has what I might term "Tim Burton" overtones,,,, I could see Johnny Depp playing the role of the father/new neighbor.Overall I thought the characters played their roles well and Aneurin Barnard, who plays Dylan Parker is an actor to watch. This is the third film of his I have now seen, along with his starring role in the "White Queen" miniseries as Richard III. He has quite a varied body of work thus far and his role here, is completely different once again.I think he has a big future in front of him.
